Founding Editors

Brief History:

Two students of final year from Dow Medical College, Pakistan felt the need of a student-based research journal from Pakistan. Their motive was to promote research in the region and help increase the contribution of medical literature from the region. After long discussions, they decided to launch a journal entitled Journal of Pakistan Medical Students (JPMS). Regardless of strong discouragement from colleagues, the founders of JPMS stood up with the idea of a new light in this era of research. With long hours of work and planning, the journal was launched on January 6th, 2011 on Facebook and after two days, the official website was launched.

 

Haris Riaz

Dr. Haris Riaz, M.B.,B.S. graduated from Dow Medical College, Pakistan in 2011. His academic honors include position in Dow University of Health Sciences, multiple distinctions in academic subjects and a cumulative GPA of 3.6. His research experience includes working at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA. He is among the founding members of JPMS and is serving as the Chief Editor from its inception to date. Besides JPMS, he is also serving as the editor and reviewer of several peer reviewed medical journals.

 

Haris Riaz has 15 publications in peer reviewed medical journals. Current research interests include systematic reviews of randomized controlled clinical trials. Future interests include becoming a physician scientist.

 

Anis Rehman

 

Anis Rehman, M.B.,B.S. graduated from Dow Medical College, Pakistan in 2011. He became interested in research at his medical school and started with many cross sectional and clinical researches and went to Johns Hopkins University, USA, where he gained invaluable research experience on Evidence Based Medicine. He has 9 publications in pubmed indexed peer review journals, besides a dozen of non-peer reviewed publications and 24 abstract presentations in many national and international conferences.
He founded the Journal of Pakistan Medical Students and contributes as the Associate Chief Editor since its inception. He also laid down the foundation of Pakistan Medical Students’ Research Society, which aims to bring a research revolution in med students. During his tenure, 17 workshops/events on research methodologies were organized throughout Pakistan. In addition, he writes for different newspaper blogs and works as the South Asian Correspondent at the Health and Medicine Desk at Asian Scientist Magazine, Singapore.

He holds a diverse experience in clinical skills, editing, organizational management and research positions, through which he has skilled himself to work independently or as a team. Working in two countries and communicating with a wide range of people, he has developed excellent oral and written communication skills. He heads the organizational structure, makes important strategic decisions, contributes to planning and development, and handles social media platforms and website issues, besides his editorial commitments for JPMS.

His career interests focus on internal medicine, medical education, and research promotion in Pakistan along with volunteering for causes.
